Bringing Generations Together...
Penlee Family Project
Preschool and Care Home Project
The Multigenerational work also extends into supporting Portreath Preschool and Harbour House Care Home in coming together once a week, Monday morning 10.45 until 11.30 am for play and shared activities. Penlee supports this work having learned much from previous  work with Little Hearts Nursery and St Clair in Camborne. This is a beautiful encounter where older people and children engage in song, laughter, games and sharing together.  Occasional tea parties for children and residents of the Care Home are also organised 3 times a year.
Art for Well Being – Portreath
Penlee supported the setting up of this group for budding artists – those with no previous art experience or with some rusty skills from time gone by. This group is run by Natalia from Ukraine with the purpose of sharing her wonderful art skills with us, for her to teach art once again and to help with her English.  In return we learn to draw and paint, benefit from her experience and knowledge and learn more about life in Ukraine and the people of the world.
We are a group of between 8 – 10 and the focus is Art for Well-being which means, enjoying peace, beautiful music, quality materials to help us with our art and time out to ‘be’, and to learn together.
We were thrilled to have put on a exhibition last year with over 65 people coming along. Four new people attending the exhibition are now with us at our weekly sessions that restarted January 2024 – Wednesdays 2.00 – 4.00 pm at St Mary’s Church Hall.
We are coming to the end of our first two terms of supporting Portreath Pre School and Harbour House Care Home playing together every Monday morning for activities, fun and conversations.
The children were hesitant at first and residents not sure what to expect but together they paved a way to meet as generations for mutual learning and enjoyment. Seeing the group develop has been a great joy. This week, the group of children said their goodbyes making way for a new group of children next term. Thank you to Jannah and a Haley and of course, the bubbly children for bringing happiness and love to us all.
