Bringing Generations Together...

Nicky

What do you do at the Penlee Family Project?

“I am a volunteer at Friday Friendship part of The Penlee Project. I help out with the activities, support the people that join us every week, whether it be making a cup of tea or helping them with a craft. I have recently started a sewing circle in which members can join me in making a sewn item, either by hand or machine stitched. Friday Friendship is the highlight of the week. “

What do you like about working for the Penlee Family Project?

“Its lively, friendly and always welcoming, but most of all, I really enjoy the social side of the group. It is very important to both the people that attend and to us, the volunteers. It’s such a diverse and friendly group with many different personalities each bringing something different to the group.”

Can you say a little bit about your prior experience and qualifications?

“I’m a trained landscape Gardener and garden designer, having run my own business and also worked for the RHS. I gained two national diplomas in these areas.”

What do you like to do when not working at the Penlee Family Project?

“I love the outdoors and also crafting. Knitting, crochet, soap making, plant growing, baking and anything artistic and creative. My two real passions are sewing and gardening. I love growing vegetables that we can use in our own kitchen or to make chutneys and jams. I grow lots of flowers, so we have a readily available supply to pick for our house. As a family we roller skate which we took back up during the pandemic. I am part of the school PTA and try to support them as much as I can as they are a small school. I am a self taught sewer who enjoys making clothes for my family. I also have a daughter, therefore life is never dull and always fun packed.”
