Our Story
Welcome to the Penlee Family Project.
The two founder members, Kim and Terry, have been employed in various sectors and positions over many years. Terry worked as a Children’s Social Worker and Practice Educator and Kim as a Registered Nurse, Nursery Owner and Teacher. Both have undertaken leadership courses and have held roles in Community Projects, including the Sure Start Project.
Kim and Terry are committed to early years work, they both understand the importance of the first 1001 days:
The Best Start to Life: a Vision for 1,001 Critical Days – Dept. of Health and Social Care and the Dept. of Education August 2022.
They met when working on the Sure Start Programme in Camborne and was then, and is so today, supporting families and a belief in building strong communities is integral to their lives and vision for the project.
Terry and Kim have a strong commitment to community services and a Life Span Approach to their work. After many years of running a Community Café with adults with learning needs and going on to develop a multigenerational way of working, bringing different generations together for fun and activities, a successful lottery bid in 2019 enabled another new beginning for Penlee.
In 2019 through to July 2022 Penlee delivered their sessions from Heartlands, Pool. We moved to Beacon Village Hall in July 2022. Then, in September 2024, we moved back to our unit at Heartlands.
Having now secured further funding and listening and learning from all who have used our services, we are continuing to evolve the Penlee Family Project.
